How To Raise Happy Kids

people-eyes-playing-young-medium

Good-intentioned parents usually create happiness for their children by making pleasurable experiences. Jowever, what children really need is to learn how to create and sustain happiness on their own. Harvard Medical School in Boston has outlined 5 things kids need most to build life long happiness and elf esteem:

1. Connections–  Feeling ground gives children a sense of security. Kids need unconditional love from their parents and will benefit from having close ties to extended family members, being apart of school activities, and helping with household tasks. Let them help take care of pets!

2. Play– Make sure your kid’s free time isn’t all programmed and regimented. Open ended play, where kids create scenerios (play pretend) and solve problems by themselves help them discover talents and skills as well as use their own resources.

3. Practice– When children find out what they are good at, the want to do it again and again. Sometimes though you might have to do some gentle nudging in the right direction to ensure sticks to an activity and finishes to feel a sense of accomplishment.

4. Mastery–  With practice comes mastery. When kids learn a skill whtether it’s learning to tie shoes, dress themselves or play the piano, they are even more motivated to take on new challenges.  That will lead to a can-do attitude.

5. Recognition– Support and approval from parents, teachers, and peers from a job well done will reconnect kids to a wider world. When childen think what they do affects their family, classmates, or team, they are more likely to exhibit moral behavior and ultamately feel good about themselves.

Luckily one step leads to the next and the cycle is self perpetuated. As a parent, you can lay the ground work at an early age. Give your kids these 5 qualities and it will increase their chances of leading a happier, more satisfying life.

I have to say, I’ve always been a fan of T’he Dr. Oz Show’. He gives great health advice and ways to become healthier. He also got brownie points for being brave enough to go against Monstano on his show and say Gmo’s are dangerous and unhealthy. I actually followed his tips after I had my 2nd daughter and I saw great results! Check out Dr. Oz’s 100 Ways To Lose Weight Here: Click

Carter’s 5 Piece Diaper Bag Set: Mommy Must Haves

FireShot Capture - Amazon.com _ Carter's 5 in One Tot_ - http___www.amazon.com_gp_product_B00QRSO5K0

After I had my 1 month old, I found it increasingly harder to tote around everything I needed for my 1 year old and my newest little one. My regular diaper bag was large, but packing 2 babies things got so disorganized and chaotic. I would mash everything in there as tight as I could get it. At the end of the day, Everything would be everywhere at the bottom of the bag: bottles spilled out, diapers all crunched up, toys in smushed around against things. It was a nightmare! Luckily a mom friend showed me this set of diaper bags. I had to get it.

I realized that I had bought a savior bag! With all the pockets I was able to keep everything I needed for my daughter organized. No leaking bottles, no crunched up diapers, no smushed toys. There was so much room to put every thing! When I needed to be out longer than a couple hours around town, I would use the littlest bag to bring alll the bottles and burp cloths and the larger one for spare clothes in case of accidents, toys, snacks and more. I would recommend this set to any mother who finds her diaper bag as another world in its own- a messy one at that! It will de-stress your day by just enough!

Making the Decision: Stay at Home Mom Vs. Working Mom

Snapshot_20150315_8

There’s always been the huge controversy of which was better: The Working Mom or The Stay At Home Mom. some argue staying at home with your children teaches them more skills and helps them develop on a more fast paced road. Others say being a working mom is better because of the financial stability you are able to achieve and give to your kids. Well, in the end it’s simple to choose: Which path personally allows you to follow your hopes and dreams?

Let’s also break down the facts. Members of the Board of Directors for the Family and Home Network say that research has shown that early relationships between moms and infants/toddlers is the foundation of personality development. Yet, many psychologists have seen no statistics to support that statement. Children who are in quality day care can recieve the same personality development as those who are taken care of by Stay at home moms. Although this is true, Psychologically children do NOT do well with large seperations of time from a parent. It causes anxiety and emotional issues.

As a working mother it is extremely at the forefront of your mind to take care of your children financially. You want to provide and give your children what they need to prosper. This is a healthy idea, but going too far can be harmful. Nobody wants to work 12 hours a day and miss out on their family life. Understand that some women work this much to be ready for unseen circumstances such as divorce, job loss or an emergency. In defense of women who work, most working moms want to be a parent and have a successful career and can often become depressed when stuck on “parenting capacity”.

Even so, every mother is different and never settle with the mom stereotypes between the working mom and the parenting mom. You can nurture and still work. You can also nuture and stay home. Whichever makes you happy and is best for your family, you go for it. I’m not judging. After all, I went for a business woman to a stay at home literally over night. I’ve seen the pros and cons of both and honestly, it’s up to the individual mom. So choose on mommy freedom fighters.

Zucchini Spice Bread

I’m always looking for zucchini recipes to try in the summer because they’re so plentiful–sometimes I grow some in my garden or I know others who do and they share them with me. It’s fun to try out different things you can make with this squash. I tried this zucchini recipe out the other day from Martha Stewart.com, and it is really good! It’s nice and moist, and has a nice blend of spices in it. I made a few minor changes to the original recipe, and I will definitely be making this again! This makes one 9×5-inch loaf.

SO if this is something you are not comfortable with, . . . this isnt for you and you can just exit this blog and move on to something else. Due to the fact, you are required to write product reviews, post them on your walls of your social media sites, share with friends, and take atleast one mandotary survey!

So lets begin, After you sign up be sure to completely and I mean COMPLETELY fill out your profile! Add a profile pic, fill out your Bio, complete your “snaps” so you can unlock your badges. Snaps are basically Surveys that let influenster know what you like && what you are about, so they can match you to the perfect voxbox! Before any voxbox, they survey you to make sure that you recieve the right products. A Influenster Impact Score is a Rank or a Score that Influenster uses to show where you stand within the influenster community. This score shows how much you can potientally impact the people around you. Not only does influenster base your score off your social media friends (the # of friends you have on each social site) but they also base your score off how helpful you are in the community such as your reviews, questions and answering others. The more friends and followers you have the higher your impact score is…. Also along with your reviews, questions and answers within the community of course.. By doing this also helps you unlock badges. You unlock badges by doing these 3 major things. Heres a screenshot of what MY Influenster Impact score looks like:

Now, Lets talk about the actual voxbox once you recieve it!

When you receive your First voxbox it USUALLY is just only ONE item. So don’t be sad or freak out. Its a good thing! ATLEAST you even got one! Getting only ONE item is great! Think of it like Influenster is testing you to see if they can trust you with the bigger and better things coming your way in the future! My VERY First voxbox was aAveeno Tone Corrector! It was just one item and it was a full sized item also! I was so happy and excited I made sure I did all my tasks. I then received Caress travel-sized body wash! Scented Edible No-Cook Fingerpaint Recipe for Babies and Toddlers

paint

We all want our little ones to be artsy and creative. Well what better than to let them paint? Safe, edible paint for toddlers is great to make! You don’t have to worry about chemicals or toxins again!

I’d had the idea to have X play in yogurt since it’s so silky smooth – but then thought, hey, why not make it into paint?  I know a lot of bloggers use Kool Aid and for so long I’d resisted because I somehow thought it had sugar already in it?  I hate that sticky sugar feeling.  But I was totally wrong – Kool Aid powder has no added sugar!  And the smells – ohhhhh yum!!!
Because I did want to discourage X from tasting, and as I mentioned, I really dislike sticky sugar residue, I bought plain yogurt.  Most brands of plain yogurt are unsweetened altogether, and are quite tart.  Though edible, it was a great teaching paint since the flavor really was not one you’d like to taste more than once!  I used small cups to measure out about two big spoonfuls of yogurt and I added 1/2 to a whole packet of Kool Aid, depending on the color (I needed very little red and orange, for instance).
If your baby has a dairy allergy, or has not yet been introduced to dairy, you can use any kind of yogurt you’d like – rice, soy, coconut milk – they all work!  If you can’t find Kool Aid or don’t want something scented, just add a drop or two of food coloring and stir well.  You will still have beautiful edible fingerpaint!
For whatever reason our local Safeway didn’t have any green Kool Aid, so I mixed half a packet of the yellow Lemonade and the blue Blue Raspberry and made my own green!

Home Made Cinnamon Rolls The Kids Will Love!

rolls

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 quart Whole Milk
  • 1 cup Butter
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2 packages Active Dry Yeast, 0.25 Ounce Packets
  • 8 cups All-purpose Flour + 1 Cup
  • 1 teaspoon (heaping) Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon (scant) Baking Soda
  • 1 Tablespoon (heaping) Salt
  • Melted Butter
  • 2 cups Brown Sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • FROSTING:
  • 1 bag Powdered Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 1/4 cup Melted Butter
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Cinnamon Rolls are so easy to make, they just take a few steps, so give it a shot and don’t let them scare you!

Mix 1 quart Whole Milk, 1 cup butter, and 1 cup Sugar in a pan. Bring almost to a boil, just “scald” the milk. If you boil you went too far, it will curdle the milk.

Remove from the heat and let it cool until warm. Add 2 packages Active Dry Yeast, 0.25 Ounce Packets and mix in.

Now transfer to a bowl all the liquid, then add 8 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon (heaping) Baking Powder, 1 teaspoon (scant) Baking Soda, and 1 Tablespoon (heaping) Salt.

Cover with a tea towel and let rise for about an hour. After it has risen, turn out to a floured surface ( like above) and add about 1 more cup flour while kneading it all in.

Take about 1/2 of the dough and roll it out into a rectangle. I would say 18 inches by about 9 inches or so. Cover with a thin layer of melted butter, sprinkle liberally with cinnamon and then sprinkle with brown sugar.

Starting with the long side away from you, roll the dough up towards you. Fold the dough up and close the roll by pinching it together.

Now take the sharpest knife you have and cut the roll into 2 to 2 1/2 inch sections. Now place them in a greased pan almost touching each other. Let these rise about 20 minutes and put them into the oven at 400 for about 15 minutes.

Pull them out when they start to get golden brown, let them cool for just a few minutes, and pour frosting over the cinnamon rolls!

For the frosting, you might have to add more milk or even more powdered sugar to get the right consistency. You want it thick but pourable!
